Building Tecniques

As the recipients of multiple Environmental Leadership Awards and a finalist in the 2013 National SAM Green House Award, we understand that environmental responsibility means more than just participating in the Energuide for New Houses, Energy Star or the R2000 programs. We believe that Environmental Leadership encompasses careful collaboration with our draftsman, framers, plumbing & heating technicians - all our suppliers and subtrades to ensure each home we build has a low environmental impact. From beginning to end, we look for ways to reduce construction waste and increase a home’s efficiency to reduce our carbon footprint.

What does that mean?

It means we engage in building practices that may cost a little more but will provide customers with a more energy efficient home for the future. It means we keep our job sites clean and don’t burry the garage when we back fill a house or let it drift around. It means we take every opportunity to recycle materials and reduce the effects of our industry on the landfills. It means offering, promoting and utilizing products and materials that have low environmental impact or can reduce the use of natural resources.

Across the country and here in Regina, there is an increased awareness and concern for our environment and renewable resources driving home buyers and home builders to explore green building in today's new housing market. Some of the green concepts that can be implemented in today's new home construction and remodeling projects include:

  • Optimizing building dimensions to correspond with standard lumber or developing framing layouts to avoid waste

  • Taking leftover materials to the next job site instead of the landfill

  • Making the most of natural heating, cooling and lighting; designing homes to optimize its position on the lot

  • Using Energy Efficient Heating and Cooling Systems

  • Increased Water Efficiency

  • Certifying every home Built Green

This video shows how we created a barn door from scratch for a customer, using 50 year-old cedar planks, milled in-house.
